Environment & Climate Change
Background
According to WHO, climate change; stratospheric ozone depletion; loss of biodiversity; changes in hydrological systems and the supplies of freshwater; land degradation; and stresses on food-producing systems are global environmental hazards to human health. The interdependency of the Earth's ecosystems and the human impact on the environment present complex challenges to governments and businesses as well as scientists and environmentalists to protect and restore the natural environment. Geospatial technology is becoming an important tool to address these challenges, especially in a fast-changing world such as today, where every event and occurrence need to be properly studied, integrated and analyzed. The programme on Environment & Climate shall highlight the environmental application areas of geospatial technology that could support policy- and decision-making processes through successful case studies around the globe.
