Biography
Alessandro Sarretta has a Degree and a PhD in Environmental Science (Ca' Foscari University, Venice, Italy) and a post graduate master in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing (IUAV, Venice, Italy). He started his research career as a grantholder at the CNR-ISMAR (2003-2009). He has worked in coastal and lagoon environments, studying sedimentology, morphology of their relations with hydrodinamics and anthropogenic pressures. He gained deep knowlegde of desktop and web GIS and of elaboration and management of spatial data. He specialised in the development and support of European initiatives related to Spatial Data Infrastructures working at the European Commission, JRC (2009-2012), dealing with the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive and the interoperability and harmonization of spatial data and their models. Since 2012 he works as a researcher at the CNR-ISMAR, where he's been involved in the Italian flagship project RITMARE (working in a group developing an interoperable infrastructure for the Italian Marine Research Community) and in the EU ADRIPLAN project (dealing with Maritime Spatial Planning in the Adriatic-Ionian region) coordinating the work-package for the management of data and information. He is involved in various initiatives at national and international level dealing with Open Source Software and Open Science.
