Abstract
Database of Institute of Meteorology and Water Management, National Research Institute in the context of the INSPIRE Directive

Co-Author: Piotr Kozak, Ministry of the Environment, Institute of Meteorology and Water Management - National Reserch Institute

The paper presents basic information about the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management - National Research Institute. Characterised tasks of State Hydrological and Meteorological Service carried out by the Institute. One of the statutory duties of the Institute is to maintain a database containing the results of measurements and observations hydrological and meteorological. The paper describes the measurement networks belonging to Institute and displays them on the map. Institute in separate systems collects information of measuring stations, measuring devices and methods of measurements. Currently is working on expanding of stored data and modification of database functions. Presents the current state functioning Institute's database. Shown is the ability to view data and retrieve them from the database. In the currently database are some metadata about measuring stations, but they are copy of the metadata stored in the reference system. Presents differences in the types of data stored and the method of using of the modified database. Describes new functionalities that should be in the modified database. These new functionalities are necessary to implementation of the requirements of the INSPIRE Directive. Action taken for this purpose by the Institute include extension and modification section of metadata and their service. Shows the database new capabilities to combine the data and metadata with examples of their use. It is important to develop a conception of connecting an expanded and modified Institute's database with the ISOK project. ISOK project pursues the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive in the Ministry of the Environment. It was decided that the basis for the integration of the systems will be measuring channel. It is a physical object in the database, which internally combines data from metadata. Outside Institutes the measuring channel shows the ISOK system which objects from the Institute's database must be converted by the ISOK system mechanisms so that they can be made available in accordance with the requirements of the INSPIRE Directive.
