Dr. Ephrem Gebremariam

Biography Dr. Ephrem Gebremariam is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Earth Sciences at Addis Ababa University and a Senior Geospatial Consultant at GeoSAS Plc where he conducts research, teaches and consults on wide range of Geospatial applications for Environmental affairs and early warning tasks. He has extensive researcher experience in the area of analyzing the impacts of climatic variability and vegetation cover change on food security situation in Agrarian and Pastoral areas in Eastern Africa. He analyzed the correlation between meteorological stations and remotely sensed and/or satellite rainfall data using GIS systems. As a GIS and Data Management officer for FAO (Food and Agricultural organization of the United Nations) and GIS Expert for the Geo-information Unit of the Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), he prepared thematic maps, graphics, charts based on GIS databases and external data that was imported into their system and published maps on the web by designing a website. He has also taught graduate courses that focused on Geographical aspects of the country and the surrounding areas, undertook research on Land use/Land cover change detection using GIS and Remote Sensing techniques, computed Integration Indices and map indicators using GIS andassisted students during the GIS Lab work as part of their courses work during their practical exercises as well as their researches activities. Ephrem has successfully organised the Global Geospatial Conference 2013 together with GSDI and EIS Africa in Addis Ababa.
