Biography
Dr Shailesh Nayak is a Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Earth Sciences, providing leadership for the programmes related to science of climate change, weather services, polar science, ocean modelling, ocean survey and resources and ocean technology. He was the President, Indian Society of Remote Sensing and Chairman, Indian Ocean-Global Ocean Observing System for the term 2008-10. He serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Inter-Governmental Coordinating Group on Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System and is the President of International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Technical Commission IV on ‘Geodatabases and Digital Mapping’. He has worked with ISRO and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, Hyderabad, where he played a key role in setting up a state-of-the-art early warning system for tsunami and storm surges in the Indian Ocean.
