Biography Raymond De Lai is the Centre Manager of the Herbert Resource Information Centre (HRIC), located in Ingham, North Queensland, Australia. Raymond is an experienced spatial information systems manager with qualifications in GIS and Management. The HRIC is a highly successful collaborative community partnership that aims to improve the quality of decision-making in the Ingham sugar community through:
• improving access to relevant and reliable information;
• improving the capacity for the community to use that information; and
• identifying opportunities for working together across the community.
The HRIC has established a successful enterprise GIS solution. Today Raymond will be presenting on the use of GIS, and how to create and capture value from GIS, in agricultural supply chain management
Abstract Top 10 Tips for a Successful Agricultural Enterprise GIS.
The Herbert Resource Information Center (HRIC) is a highly successful and awarded GIS joint venture partnership based in Ingham, North Queensland, Australia. The HRIC has developed and operates a well-regarded agricultural Enterprise GIS solution. Used in the Australian Sugar Industry solution covers all aspects of the agricultural supply chain, from farm to factory. This includes farming operations, harvesting, transport, and receiving of product at the sugar mill. The solution provides timely access to spatial information and improved information visibility critical for improved decision making.
These same tools have been adapted and successfully trialled in the wine grape industry in South Australia.
The HRIC has a long history of working with agricultural stakeholders to utilize GIS technology to drive improved efficiency and productivity leading to greater business and industry profitability. Drawing on the experience and knowledge gained from close to two decades of managing the HRIC, the presenter will provide his Top 10 Tips to successfully build and operate an agricultural Enterprise GIS solution. While examples will be drawn from HRICs work in both the sugar and wine grape industries this presentation will be relevant to any agricultural industry considering an Enterprise GIS solution. Enterprise GIS solutions for agriculture will lead to readable attainable productivity improvements, improved stakeholder engagement and efficiency gains across the entire agricultural supply chain.
