The Changing World of GIS

GIS has been with us for decades, constantly evolving, shaped by the technological changes. Many GIS professionals learned their craft on computers less powerful than the ones they now carry in their pockets. Mobile data collection and distribution allow for exciting opportunities in many areas. At the same time, cloud computing offers unique opportunities for throwing massive computing power at complex analysis problems. Tasks that used to take weeks or months to run can be completed in minutes. Add that to unprecedented amounts of data available to users, and you have tremendous opportunities and challenges to integrate all these new technologies into your every day workflow. This talk will address the current state of the GIS world and a vision of the near future.
