Dr.-Ing. Michael Cramer
Institute for Photogrammetry University of Stuttgart Germany
Biography Dr. Cramer holds a permanent position as senior lecturer at the Institute for Photogrammetry (ifp), University of Stuttgart. Since the last more than 6 years he actively participated in the EuroSDR, the European Spatial Data Research organization, where he was responsible for several projects and served as Chair of the EuroSDR Commission I, dedicated to Primary Data Acquisition, Sensors and Georeferencing. Besides this, Dr. Cramer also is involved in the ISPRS (International Society of Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geoinformation) where he currently is co-chairing a working group on Integrated Navigation Systems for Sensor Georeferencing. In 2009 Dr. Cramer was awarded with the Carl-Pulfrich Award for “recognizing cutting-edge innovations, hard- and software developments and integrated systems design in geodesy, photogrammetry and the Earth sciences”. His current research interests are on the digital airborne camera calibration and certification, sensor georeferencing including RPAS and automatic aerial triangulation.
Abstract UAS Technology and its Use in Surveying
The evolution and state of the art of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in the field of surveying is discussed in this paper. A particular focus is on the use of this technology in national surveying. Today, a number of European National Mapping Agencies (NMAs) think about the future use of this technology in their applications. First experiments have been made to investigate the potential of the RPAS based data collection. Some of these tests are exemplarily presented in the context of this presentation.
