Abstract
Leverage the Power of Location

New patterns for delivering GIS capabilities are emerging. They provide a new paradigm for how people everywhere access and use geographic information: They use maps on their desktops, the web, tablets, and smartphones for a sophisticated range of activities to apply advanced geographic information.

In addition, this services pattern brings analytics to spatial data in a way that wasn't possible before. It now brings the flexibility to dynamically answer many questions, data no longer needs to be processed for each individual question. The role of GIS goes from being a specialized technology for specialized people (with specialized workflows) to geospatially enabling everybody in the organization. This makes it an open ?Location Platform? that the IT and developer community can leverage in the way that best fits the organization?s needs: in the cloud, on premise or in a hybrid pattern.

The talk will show how developers inside and outside the organization can harness this pattern. It will demonstrate how this allows totake advantage from authoritative content and a collection of open APIsto develop applications and integrate their geographic information system with other systems and platforms.
