Abstract

The International Committee of the Red Cross setup a Geoportal on 2011 for the internal staff members. It’s mandate is to assist and protect the lives of victims of war and internal violence. Many units and sections made the choice to display or to gather data through this online platform built on ESRI ecosystem. Daily humanitarian operation follow-up, finance, human resources, management of the building, logistic... The platform become quickly transversal but in the meantime it is starting to be too complex for the end users as there is too much key information in one spot… Dedicated and thematic portals are setup for the needs of the specific end users. Those kiosks are made with the minimal layers of information, and the minimal of tools needed for the display and analysis of the data. As the GIS team is embedded within the Water and Habitat unit, the first thematic kiosks where used to gather information on solar panels equipment’s for water pumping, and for data consolidation of all urban water projects set up by the engineers.
