Abstract Züri wie neu
Since April 2013, defects of the infrastructure in Zürich can be reported to the city's administration via Smartphone app or on the website www.stadt-zuerich.ch/zueriwieneu. With this platform, the City Council implements a winning project from the idea-competition of the legislature focus 'Zürich'. The reports can be anything from a pothole to vandalism or graffiti. The portal is hosted by the city of Zürich and managed transparently. All reports are forwarded to the appropriate office within one working day and answered within five working days. The application sports both, localization by GPS sensor or by address search, with subsequent positioning on the map in both cases. Next to a description of the problem, a photo can be uploaded - which can be captured directly from within the application. "Züri wie neu†is operated by the Department of Civil Engineering and Disposal as a pilot project for one year. If the system stands the test, it will be extended to the entire city administration. Success criteria include the participation of the public, media coverage, the acceptance by the city's administration and the image gain for the city. Expected benefits are an increase in transparency of administrative actions, faster discovery of damages to the city's infrastructure as well as a modern and contemporary image. As the technical foundation, the city of Zürich has opted for the open source project 'FixMyStreet", which has already been implemented successfully in various countries. High-resolution maps and current address information are provided by the city administration. Since "Züri wie neu" is managed by different departments, a process has been developed which is adaptable by every department of the city's administration. The media has reported about "Züri wie neu" repeatedly - resulting in a highly increased traffic on the website. After the initial hype, the site records on average about 100 visits and about 10 new reports per day.
