Abstract
Big Data – Managing Location Data in a Smart City

Location information is a key part of many business processes in the Smart City and an important constituent of any Big Data scenario. It is generated at an ever increasing rate either by sensors or other devices on the "Internet of Things" or through human interaction in a multitude of ways. It is created either explicitly in the form of position data, eg. from a GPS device or a mobile phone network or implicitly through (parts of) an address, a landmark or the like. In order to deal with location data in a Big Data scenario, specific capabilities are required in the IT infrastructure. This presentation will look at experience and best practices both for online applications as well as for analytic purposes. It will also touch on the management of 3D geospatial data which is required to put location information into context.
