Abstract
Interorganisational Spatial Data Infrastructure of the Swiss Parks – Ideas, Solutions, Pitfalls

The Swiss Parks Network, founded in 2007 as a non-profit association, is the umbrella organization of all parks and park projects of national importance in Switzerland. Currently there are 20 parks in operation or in prepa-ration. Providing geo-information related know-how and technology to the Swiss parks is one of the core functions of the Swiss Parks Network. It has been a long way from the initial idea of a common geospatial data infrastructure (GDI) for all parks (2006), to the establishment of the Competence Centre for Geoinformation (since 2012) and the development of a GIS community within the Swiss parks. A challenge in particular has always been the heterogeneous na-ture of the Network: The Competence Center itself, in this initial phase supported by the Swiss National Park where GIS is established for more than 20 years, all parks with different organizational structures and a plethora of partner organizations. Moreover, current technical and administrational solutions do not foresee an interorganisational setup of technology and licensing. They are focused on intranet solutions and single administrations. Today the Competence Centre for Geoinformation is dedicated to provide all stakeholders with an integrated GDI, particularly concerning the access to geodata and the development and implementation of web-based and mobile maps with user groups evident content. The presentation will show the evolution of the GDI of the Swiss Parks Network during the last years, focusing on the current technical and administrative solutions, the present and future challenges. Moreover, a few outstanding projects will be higlighted.
