Dr.Matthias Trapp
Head of Department for Environmental Systems RLP AgroScience GmbH, Institute for AgroEcology Germany
Biography Matthias Trapp studied Applied Physical Geography and Earth Science at the University Trier with a focus at soil sciences and Geo-Information Systems (GIS). He made his PhD thesis at the University Trier in 2003 with the key issue management of geodata for a site-specific optimisation of resources in agriculture in the framework of soil and groundwater protection. From 1996 – 2000 he worked at the Department of Soil Science and Soil Protection of the Agricultural Service Centre in Trier with an exploratory focus of precision agriculture and remote sensing in the framework of soil and groundwater protection. Since 2000 he works at the RLP AgroScience GmbH. Since 2009 he is head of the department Environmental Systems. The department focuses on two main areas: the analysis and management of environmental information on the one hand and the analysis of environmental effects on the other. The environmental information group is specialised on the development and implementation of operational methods of digital landscape analysis by using GIS and remote sensing software packages like eCognition and ENVI. One main focus of this research is landscape classification and analysis based on high-resolution remote sensing data as well as linking and embedding simulation models in GIS.
Abstract Automated Capturing and Monitoring of Cross Compliance landscape features in the EU‐Framework of IACS.
Automated Capturing and Monitoring of Cross Compliance landscape features in the EU‐Framework of IACS, so called ALEK (Automatische Landschaftselementeklassifikation). ALEK is a method for the highly detailed mapping of vegetation. It is based on the automated analysis of aerial images and digital elevation models with a spatial resolution of lower than 50 cm and a temporal update cycle of 2 years. At this stage ALEK serves the state administration of Rhineland-Palatinate in the fulfillment of report obligations towards the European Union in the context of Cross Compliance (IACS) and NATURA2000. This field of application is transferable to many other countries in the European Union as the regulatory frameworks are the same all over the EU. Furthermore ALEK provides a very profound database and method for many other applications in administration, planning, research and cartography. As ALEK can provide a full data coverage for regions or even states and countries it can serve for the upgrade and extension of national geo-data-infrastructures (GDI). The automated processing combined with regularly updated standard imagery creating DSM (Digital Surface Models) and LiDAR data creating DEM (digital elevation moldes) provides a relatively cheap possibility for data updates and can therefore be used for change detection and monitoring issues.
