Biography
Prof. Josef Strobl is an educator and researcher leading the Austrian Academy of Sciences' GIScience Institute and the Centre for Geoinformatics, University of Salzburg (Austria) and is teaching GIScience and related subjects at universities worldwide. He heads the annual AGIT and GI_Forum symposia in Salzburg and is working with a global network of partner institutions in education, basic and applied research in Geographic Information Science. Prof. Strobl has been instrumental in developing and implementing the worldwide UNIGIS postgraduate distance learning programme. He leads a group with an excellent record in distance education, curriculum development, spatial analysis and remote sensing, distributed architectures for SDI as well as real time and mobile services and applications ranging from planning for sustainability, regional energy systems and emergency preparedness to resource management.
