Abstract
UAVs: Fit-for-Purpose Mapping and SDI Development

75% of the world's population does not have affordable access to formal systems to register and secure their land rights. Even in developed countries and where affordable formal systems exist, data quality remains poor. UAVs have significant potential as a new tool to capture spatial data to augment spatial data infrastructures, improve data quality, and increase good governance of land and natural resources. The presentation will demonstrate the on-going work by the World Bank and FAO to develop a methodology for low cost technological solutions for data quality improvement and to integrate UAV derived geo-spatial products into the development of the national SDI for improved land administration and management in line with the "Fit for Purpose" mapping concept.
