Abstract New Technological Challenge of Geospatial Information Platform (V-world) in South Korea?
Co-Author: Dek-Kie Tcha
Geospatial information (GI) is information describing the location and names of features beneath, on or above the earth's surface. Geospatial information supports a wide range of business, government and community activities, and the use and re-use of this information has significant productivity-related benefits. In South Korea, to encourage this GI industry, 3D Geospatial Information Open Platform (V-world) in 2011 as a pilot project was launched. V-world includes the portal service, map service, user participation service, etc. In September 2013, V-world server was hardly down due to a keen interest, North Korea's image, and the multi-access of user at the same time.
This study deals with new challenges of Vworld such as the re-adjustment of its architecture, the related s/w performance reinforcement, new 3D GIS engine development based on HTML5/WebGL, data interoperability technology. etc., and reviews the reasonable plans to overcome above problems.
