Tim Riome
Director of UAV Operations Caintech Scotland
Biography Having spent the last 25 years involved in aviation as an Air Traffic Controller, I became involved with the Caintech UAS from the earliest stages of the project. Initially as a part-time consultant, I was involved in system evaluations prior to purchase, the training and CAA approval process, post-purchase, and operation of the system since then.
I have recently changed career direction to become involved in the UAS side of Caintech’s business on a full time basis.
Abstract Unmanned Aerial System - Virtual Ground Control Points Using RTK GNSS
Unmanned Ariel Systems are growing in popularity as a means of capturing large amounts of data for survey projects. This new technology is developing quickly and the available functionality opens up many new markets. My presentation will look at how my company embraced this new technology by investing in the Topcon Sirius Pro UAS.
The geography of Scotland, where we are based, often precludes the use of Ground Control Points (GCP) for aerial survey. The Sirius Pro does not require GCP’s as it utilises on board RTK for geo-referencing. This allowed us to introduce aerial surveying into new markets and to examine how we could incorporate the UAS technology with traditional surveying methods. We found this to save time without sacrificing accuracy.
My presentation will show how we introduced this new technology and will demonstrate the workflow by referring to a variety of projects.
