Abstract The Planet Platform
Planet Labs is a new start up with a bold mission: To image the entire planet every day. In the last year alone the company has built and launched 67 satellites, made possible with an 'Agile Aerospace' approach. The current operational constellation is successfully imaging the earth at a resolution of 3 to 5 meters, in RGB with Near IR coming soon. The goal is to create a much greater awareness of all that is happening on our planet. This talk will provide a deep dive into Planet’s data and software infrastructure. Instead of just delivering hard disks of geotiffs we are building a scalable, web-based, API-driven interface to make it easy for anyone to access the data. Our constellation of satellites is constantly sending images to our ground station network, where they are rolled up to our cloud-based data processing pipeline, delivering the imagery to end users as quickly as possible. This talk will demo our software and data, walking through our open catalog that enables anyone, even non-experts, to browse and potentially download our data or integrate it into their platform.
