Biography
Assist. Prof. Marko Komac, Ph.D. is the Managing Director at OneGeology with responsibility for coordination and managing the activities within the OneGeology initiative of geological surveys of the world.Prior to joining OneGeology, Marko worked at the Geological Survey of Slovenia for 16 years. Notable is his last 8 years as the General Director, managing the national geological survey. In 2011 and 2012 he served as a President of the EuroGeoSurveys, an organization of 33 European geological. Currently he?s a Vice-President of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), a global union of over one million geoscientists. Marko also holds a position of an Assistant Professor at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia, where he gives a course on GIS. Marko received his PhD degree in geology and environmental protection from the University of Ljubljana in 2003. Areas of his professional expertise are GIS, remote sensing and research in landslides. He?s married and has two lovely children. His passions are running, swimming, windsurfing and photography.
