3D & Augmented Reality
Over the years, there has been major improvements in 3D data collection techniques, i.e. aerial and close range photogrammetry, airborne, terrestrial laser scanning and others, in terms of accuracy and speed. This is also supported by hardware developments, where processors, memory and disk space devices have become more efficient in processing 3D data sets, including graphics cards that is also used by gaming industry. In addition to that, elaborated tools to display and interact with 3D data are continuously evolving. Now is the best time to integrate 3D models in geospatial environment, and to explore innovative applications beyond visualization.
