WORKSHOP

Earth Observation for Sustainable Agricultural Development

This workshop aims to inform and build awareness across the agricultural and rural development sectors on the utility, benefits, and potential constraints of using satellite Earth Observation (EO) information services. A series of short presentations around the themes of agricultural productivity, agricultural water management, and sustainable land management will showcase how EO is used in the design, implementation, and evaluation of projects funded by various Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).

The workshop anticipates an audience of approximately 30 persons, particularly targeting people active in the agricultural and rural development sectors. The workshop will include practical examples, interactive discussions on how to better use EO in MDB operations, and hands-on demonstrations of EO tools and services, with approximately 60 minutes of presentations and 30 minutes of discussion. Speakers will introduce key concepts, challenges and opportunities of EO for agriculture and rural development and showcase how EO is used for enhanced agricultural productivity, improved agricultural water management, and fostering sustainable land management in development project design, operational monitoring and impact assessment.

The workshop is organized by the cluster on ‘agriculture and rural development’ of the EO4SD initiative funded by the European Space Agency. This initiative supports the uptake of EO-derived information in sustainable development (for more info, please see https://eo4sd.esa.int/agriculture).

Speakers will be members of the EO4SD agriculture and rural development consortium and its partners, including:
