Measuring the Success of Your INSPIRE Services
Friday, 29 May 2015, 1530 – 1700 hrs
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Measuring is the key in making verified progress in any task. The INSPIRE directive implementation aims at establishing a Europe-wide harmonised network of 24/7 Spatial Web Services providing up-to-date, high-quality and reusable environmental datasets accessible for all. This kind of system will not become reality by legislative means alone. The data providers need to make a continuous effort in providing good quality services to their users demonstrate the added value created by their investments in data provisioning. Collecting and analysing key quality and usage metrics about the published services makes it possible to systematically evaluate and show the progress made in data provisioning.
The separation between the data providers and the users is disappearing. It’s no longer possible to own or store all the data required for the data-intensive work processes. We all need to be able to find, select and access the different datasets on-demand depending on our work task at hand each day. Thus it’s more important than ever to be able to find reliable services providing high quality data for themes and areas you’re interested in.
This workshop focuses on tangible ways of evaluating your current success and measuring of the user impacts of the changes you make in the services and datasets you provide. The metrics presented include service and dataset usage, continuous service availability, responsiveness and capacity. The participants will learn how to collect these metrics for their services and use the data for planning and implementing targeted improvements to their data provisioning.
