In recent years there has been increasing pressure to improve business efficiencies, competitive advantage and resource utilisation. There are examples of the true business value of GIS projects, and standardised methodology for estimating the value or return on investment of using GIS within organisations. Availability of cost effective hardware, software and spatial database has led to the scaling down of the threshold barrier to Geospatial implementation during the last couple of decades. One has also witnessed the increased availability of skilled human resources that has led to implementation of GIS in utility services, infrastructure projects, agriculture, environment, natural resource management etc. The meet will focus on p roject case studies from selected vertical application segment, highlighting the cost of implementing GIS, its short-term benefits and the expected long term profits. The meet also seeks to draw attention to the intangible benefits accruing to an organisation through the use of geospatial tools and data.
