As the leading geospatial agency and geospatial data provider in Malaysia, the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM) plays a significant role in creating and supporting 3D geospatial initiatives that, in turn will allow spatially enabled society and government. This is in accordance with the rapid changes in geospatial technology trends use in almost every economic sector. Therefore, this paper is prepared to give an overview of JUPEM's current and future 3D geospatial initiatives in Malaysia, especially the works toward 3D cadaster enablement and Smart City adaptation through SmartKADASTER. SmartKADASTER is an innovation in the Cadastral Survey Information System in JUPEM, where convergence of current geospatial technologies and applications are integrated seamlessly with Cadastral Survey data to increase User Experiences (UX) for smart decision making and multipurpose cadastral based analysis. The objective of its development is to establish a realistic and SMART Cadastral-based spatial analysis platform for an effective planning, decision making, enabling efficiencies and enhancing communication and management to support SMART services towards SMART City enablement. Issues, challenges and recommendations of SmartKADASTER implementation will also be highlighted in this paper.
