BiographyInes is a certified geomatics engineer. She obtained her MSc certificate from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 2012. Ines has been involved in information technology projects related to the implementation of INSPIRE directive in the SNIMar project, the creation of the Portuguese marine SDI and more recently Ines is working as a programmer in the development of a web-based geospatial planning tool for New Zealand.AbstractInes Falcao, Rita Dionisio, Mirjam Schindler, Simon Kingham | University of Canterbury Envision Scenario Planner is a research-based geospatial planning tool to support decision-making in urban regeneration at the neighbourhood scale.

Users can spatially model the allocation of pre-assessed residential, commercial, mix-used and open-space typologies to the map as well as change lots and pathways geometries in order to assess the scenario with respect to its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts and benefits through a simple report line.

ESP was developed using MapboxGL JS, Django/ DRF, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Docker, VueJS, Chart.js, Bootstrap, Turf.js and other geospatial open-source libraries.

Given the public nature of the project, the rationale for using open-source technology is primarily to ensure free ongoing access and use of the application by the general public, experts and non-experts, providing an affordable and flexible solution that supports decision-makers and communities to embrace change and to understand the trade-offs and what sustainable land use means.

The user-friendly interface and the extruded visualisation of the scenarios make ESP attractive providing users with a straightforward way of modelling and analysing use-cases through the interactive geospatial functionalities and the technical but explicit assessment reports. ESP is a free tool that showcases important messages which advocate for change and help to build awareness, consensus and responsibility.
