BiographyAir Commodore Ahmed Bin Saif Al-Badi is serving as the Head of National Survey Authority, Ministry of Defence, Sultanate of Oman since July 2016. He work towards facilitating and accelerating growth of the geospatial industry in Oman through active contribution in National Mapping Programs, Development of SDI, setting up policies and frameworks and creation of Geospatial Infrastructure. AbstractData sharing and integration is crucial to an effective and efficient government and society. The ability to share and integrate data with other organisations enables the creation of better information and enables more informed decision-making based on the evidence presented in the data. The ability to technically share and integrate data is covered by the data creation and exchange policy to deal with the use of technical standards and specifications. The data sharing and integration policy recognizes work currently underway in the Sultanate of Oman to create an Oman National Spatial Data Infrastructure (ONSDI).

The current process for gaining access to geospatial data is a manual one. The requesting Ministry, Authority or organisation is required to write a formal letter to the provisioning Ministry, Authority or organisation requesting the data. The letter should include the following:

» Detail of the requesting Ministry, Authority or organisation;
» Detail of the data requested;
» Detail of the intended use of the data; and
» Detail of a nominated person responsible for data security if the data is provisioned.

The presentation would aim at the brief history of National Survey Authority (NSA), Its Production, Services and Training capabilities, the Geospatial Infrastructure created so far and how it has been put to use. The presentation will also highlight the Geospatial standards, specifications and policies created by NSA to address the unification of data, avoiding data redundancy and ease of data exchange and distribution.
