With its capability to host and publish data sets, EnviDat provides unified and managed access to a comprehensive reservoir of research data. EnviDat focuses on integrating curated data sets from the environmental domain, leading to a formal publication of research data with assignments of proper citation information and DOIs.

Geospatial technologies are central for EnviDat's additive data discovery mechanism, supporting data users with a more effective search and retrieval of published data based on their geospatial characteristics. By integrating GIS data and capabilities, EnviDat is showcasing the convergence of publishing repositories and geoportals and supporting bridging the gap between the research data management and the geospatial communities. EnviDat is registered in FAIR-sharing.org, re3data.org and a contributor to EUDAT and the GEOSS Portal.

With EnviDat, WSL fosters international research cooperation in the field of environmental science and contributes to the ongoing cultural evolution in research towards openness, shared data and opportunities for distant collaboration. By hosting data on environmental and climate change, EnviDat actively contributes to the faster advancement of science and generation of crucial knowledge about climate change and climate change mitigation.
