Digital Agriculture
12 May 2022, BUILDING 43 - JEANNE D’ARC
Agenda
BACKGROUND
As the world population continues to grow, innovation towards sustainably increasing agricultural production has become a global priority. By building sustainable and productive farming practices, the global food supply chain can be improved while at the same time decreasing losses, waste as well as negative climate impact.
Digital agriculture leverages data and algorithms to provide specific recommendations for every square meter of a field. The introduction of digital agriculture, or precision farming, has enabled farmers to accurately measure, map and manage variations in their farms such as soil acidity, nutrient level, historical yield and climate variations.
Technologies including GPS-enabled tractors, drones, and Internet of Things (IoT) are widely used in precision farming. Farmers now can monitor individual crops and have access to a vast array of information to help them make better-informed decisions. The way forward is to bring digitalization to the entire agribusiness value chain transformation.
