Biography

Jarkko T. Koskinen has a Doctor of Science in Technology degree from Aalto University. He is currently Deputy Director General of National Land Survey of Finland and Director of Finnish Geospatial Research Institute (FGI).

FGI is world leading research institute in Geomatics, namely, Geodesy, Laser Scanning, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Geoinformatics and GNSS. It is the only Finnish Research institute that has been awarded coordination of Center of Excellence by Academy of Finland (Laser Scanning). Academy of Finland makes annual review of status of Science in Finland. Based on this review FGI has been ranked to have highest impact of science in Finland for three consecutive times. During last five years FGI has produced 6 spin-off companies.

Prof. Koskinen has been twice working abroad 1994-1995 as Young Graduate in ESA-ESRIN and 1999-2000 as visiting scientist in JPL (NASA). He is a delegate to ESA's Programme Board on Earth Observation (PB-EO) and a member of Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. He has served in Scientific Advisory Board of Finnish Defense Forces, Delegate to Eumetsat Counsil, Copernicus committee (EU) and Group on Earth Observation (GEO).

Prof. Koskinen has acted as reviewer of several international journals and conferences. He has authored and co-authored over 100 scientific papers.
