BiographyCaroline M. Gevaert received an M.Sc. degree in Remote Sensing from the University of Valencia, in 2013, and the M.Sc. degree in Geographical Information Science from Lund University in 2014. In 2018 she obtained Ph.D. degree (cum laude) with the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC), University of Twente, Enschede, the Netherlands. She is currently working as an Assistant Professor at that same Faculty and co-chair of the ISDE Working Group 3 on Digital Earth Governance and Ethics. Her research focusses on the use of machine learning, for remote sensing image analysis, particularly regarding Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.AbstractA geospatial perspective on implementing AI ethics and good governanceData governance and AI ethics are at the forefront of the current digital transformation of society. Government, academia, and industry are discussing and developing guidelines on how to embed principles and values into digital (geospatial) technologies. Yet we are still far from implementation. This presentation will discuss how these global data responsibility guidelines apply to geospatial data and some of the key challenges we face as we move towards implementation.
