BiographyBeau Gardeniers is a traffic consultant and GIS analyst with 5 years experience at Royal HaskoningDHV..
Beau's interest lies in processing data into a usable application for mobility issues. The power of which
lies in converting complex, raw data into understandable information. While ESRI software provides good
support for complex analyses, the online environment allows complex data to be presented to clients in
an easily accessible manner.
AbstractAutomation in GISThere is a continuing growth in demand for geospatial analyses within Royal HaskoningDHV due
to the data-driven methods we are applying to sustainable mobility issues. With increasing
demand, it is inevitable that analyses increase in complexity with greater client engagement
with the information that we produce, therefore the development of reliable methods within
our GIS products is of greater importance. Additionally, we see an opportunity for the
development of tools that can be used by colleagues with less GIS experience in order to deliver
complex analyses to a larger audience. To achieve this, we are increasingly moving away from
project to product thinking. As such, we try to recognise repetitive work that can be
standardised and automated.
This presentation will discuss automation of tasks and processes within GIS through model
builder and notebook. This approach allows for timesaving, a reduction in errors, greater ease
of updating and transparency in our methods whilst also ensuring usability among non-GIS
experts. For an industrial complex in Rotterdam, we have made an accessibility scan which we
have already carried out for various companies.
