BiographyLiina Munari is the Acting Head of Unit C1 Digital Modelling and Science Cloud of the DG Connect of the European Commission, based in Luxembourg. The unit in charge of setting up the new Destination Earth initiative, part of the EU Green Deal. Other sectors of the unit cover the European Open Science Cloud (jointly with DG RTD) and the European Research and Education Networks (GEANT) as part of the EU research infrastructures programme. With over 20 years experience at the service of the European institutions, Ms Munari has worked in several sectors of EU technology research and innovation, including learning technologies, digital libraries and digital preservation. Her academic background is in international and European politics.AbstractDestination Earth initiative of the European CommissionDestination Earth is a new initiative of the European Commission to support the European Green Deal and the Digital Strategy. It aims to develop a very high precision digital model of the Earth (a digital twin) to monitor and predict environmental change and human impact to support sustainable development. To achieve this ambitious goal, the Commission is joining forces with European scientific and industrial excellence to demonstrate how digital technologies can effectively contribute to a more sustainable and digital future. This talk will present the vision and current status of the initiative.
