BiographyDr. Hala Bayoumi is a research engineer at the CNRS France (National centre for scientific re-search) and head of the Digital Humanities cluster at the CEDEJ. She holds a Ph.D. in Comput-er Science from EPHE (Paris, France) and a habilitation in Geography from university Jean Moulin (Lyon, France). She is the winner of the CNRS 2017 crystal medal, and ambassador of the program la Science taille XXelle. She published different books and websites and co-edited recently with Karine Bennafla Atlas de lgypte Contemporaine, 2020. She coordinated since 2010 a Master's level diploma in Data Analysis and Spatial Analysis Techniques (GIS 4D) for Egyptian officials from CAP-MAS (inter-university diploma EPHE-university of Lyon). AbstractThe work presented involves modelling dryland dynamics as part of a geo-simulation approach to exploit available global data ("big data and data science" paradigm), with a view to making them accessible via the Internet in the form of a "digital and interactive" map of arid and semi-arid zones. The provision to the international scientific community and all decision-makers and social actors of a spatially referenced information system accessible on the Internet, which can be regularly updated to provide thematic maps in various formats. It is on the basis of the database resulting from the world map of arid zones drawn up in 1979 by a team of scientists, published by UNESCO, that the updating of the World Map of Arid Zones was considered. Indeed, after 30 years and at a time when questions are being asked about climate change, the international scientific community is expressing the need to update this map in the form of an information system on both environmental variables (soil, vegetation, climate) and hydrological variables, without excluding the population.
