Location-based data, geospatial analysis and modelling are vital ingredients for establishing baseline information and in monitoring progress towards the implementation of the SDGs. However, sustainable solutions to the SDGs will not be achieved through these ingredients alone. The SDGs also represent a huge opportunity. To realise that opportunity requires: collaboration across the public, private, third sectors and academia in the design and development of, often disruptive, systemic solutions and business models. And a means of rapidly developing and supporting new startup businesses, whilst minimising the risks to the resources invested in doing so.

Geovation, Ordnance Survey''s open innovation initiative and location-based startup accelerator, is recognised for its success in helping location-based startups develop, launch and scale rapidly whilst minimising risk, through its GeoTech and PropTech accelerator programmes. However, developing a collaboratively funded and supported, mission-driven Clean EnergyTech accelerator, specifically to help address some of the SDGs requires, a different approach. One that identifies the most appropriate global corporates, public, third sector and academic organisations to collaborate with, based on identifying respective, purpose, motivations, insights and benefits, to drive positive location impact. This approach is described, working together with Schneider Electric and B-Corp Pineapple Partnerships, with location based startup case studies.
