BiographyDavid Yanofsky is the editor of the Things team, Quartz's cohort of journalists who use non-traditional means to originate and execute their stories. A founding member of Quartz's newsroom in 2012, he has used remotely sensed data to cover drought in California, the Rohingya in Myanmar, fires, landslides, floods, and festivals all around the world. He has trained dozens of journalists on acquiring and processing geospatial information. A self taught practitioner of Javascript, Python, and R he previously worked for Bloomberg creating interactive stories for its web sites, television stations, radio broadcasts, and magazines. He is the initiator of the Chartbuilder project and recently won a long-running public records lawsuit against the US government for $174,000 worth of data.
