BiographyKeith Fraley has been designing, developing and delivering world class geospatial solutions for 20 years in a wide variety of industries. Keith has recently joined 40Geo, LLC (40Geo.com) after spending 13 years at Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) designing, developing and delivering global geospatial solutions across the RDS enterprise. Over the last several years he has been heavily involved in combining geospatial technology and power of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) to delivery real-time spatially enabled situational awareness tools for several different focus areas. Keith is a recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the GeoWeb and has a passion around IoT, geospatial, machine learning and computing at the edge.AbstractThis talk will explore the current geospatial Cambrian explosion we are undergoing. As with the original Cambrian explosion, there is a critical mass of factors responsible for the explosion. We will uncover the critical factors involved in today's supernova of geospatial capabilities. Front and center in this exponential growth is the rise of cheap, powerful, abundant and ubiquitous sensors.

The rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), both consumer and industrial, is leading to extraordinary diversity and overall growth of our geospatial industry. The IoT market is forecasted to be $11 trillion (USD) by 2025 with geospatial being a critical component. We will dive into a billion dollar IoT subsector (AIS) that appeared out of thin air (literally) and how the model for the success of AIS will replicate itself over the next 10-15 years time and time again.

This talk will touch on how to approach/leverage an industry that is moving at web speed. The critical success factor for capitalizing on IoT starts with one fundamental statement, "What am I trying to do" By stating the business or sociological challenge and working backwards towards the technology we can maximize gains and minimize being victims to evolutionary dead ends.
