BiographyIr. Mark Noort is director/owner of HCP international. He is a specialist in the field of geospatial information applications, with emphasis on agriculture, water, environment and climate change. He has carried out assingments as consultant and expatriate expert in different parts of the world and has worked for the public, private and academic sector. For more than 10 years he has been active in the Group on Earth Observations. AbstractThe potential contribution of Earth observation applications to the achievements of SDGs and the monitoring of the associated indicators is widely recognised. However, emphasis has been more on demonstrating what Earth observation can deliver and less on the incorporation of Earth observation as element of geospatial technology in general monitoring and assessment.

Based on an exploratory study on the use of Earth observation for SDGs for the Netherlands the lessons learned and important factors related to the main actors will be presented. In addition, the conditions for a successful cooperation that benefits from the application of geospatial technology, will be discussed, both for the Netherlands and the international context.
