BiographyDr.-Ing. Jurgen Mossgraber (M) holds a degree in Computer Science and received a PhD from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He is the head of the research group Architecture and Information Systems at the Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation IOSB. His research interests include the design and implementation of web based information systems with state-of-the-art technologies. He has particular experience with the design of distributed systems handling large-scale databases and modern architectures for task-oriented systems with a service- and event-based approach. He led several System Architecture work packages in European research projects and now in the on-going H2020 interdisciplinary projects HERACLES and beAWARE. AbstractDecision Support Systems (DSSs) need to solve the problem of facilitating the broad variety of sensors available today. They can be accessed via Internet of Things (IoT) or Machine-2-Machine (M2M) standards. All this data needs to be aggregated and fused, the semantics of the data needs to be understood and the results must be presented to the decision makers in an accessible way. To implement this "sensor to decision chain" solutions and technologies for each step must be selected. This presentation provides an insight into the sensor to decision chain, proposes solutions and technologies for each step. For integrating and harmonizing the data and for creating a common basis for further analysis, the Open Geo-spatial Consortium (OGC) developed a data model and API called the SensorThings API. The FRaunhofer Opensource SensorThings Server (FROST) is an open-source implementation of the standard, developed by the German research institute Fraunhofer IOSB, to cover the need for a standards-based, easy to use sensor management and sensor-data storage platform, for use in different domains and applications like industrial applications, smart cities, environmental and crisis management.
