Now, imagine such artificial intelligence (AI) examining the asset condition from drone videos, satellite imagery, etc., and spotting the defects, if any, automatically. Across the globe, humans are collecting terabytes of imagery and data using drones and other aerial platforms and space-based sensors. It's certainly not possible for humans to navigate through all that data to spot what they want. But AI can certainly help. Using machine learning techniques, Cyient built an image processing engine that identifies encroaching vegetation over transmission and distribution lines and automatically creates work orders for immediate threats. The solution contains a library of autonomous bots that detect specific Utility asset issues such as line defects, cracks in insulator blades, and encroaching vegetation from LiDAR and other image formats. While the existing solutions in the market take multiple weeks to deliver results and cost up to of $100 per km of data processed, this AI-driven solution brings down the cost by 50% and delivers actionable work orders within a few hours of data capture. The presentation depicts how Cyient built this innovative solution and how it can change the way Utilities manage their areal asset inspections.
