BiographyMarco has dual Dutch and Canadian citizenship. He has an Ir degree (Master of Engineering) from Delft University of Technology in Aerospace Engineering in 1988. He worked as a RADAR research engineer at Dutch Defense Research Labs and the Canada Center for Remote Sensing until 1995.
In 1995 he moved to Canada and was employed by Atlantis Scientific and Vexcel Canada where he was in charge of SAR software development (EarthView). He spearheaded the development of operational services based on InSAR technology.
Since 2007 he is with MDA (MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates) where he is Chief Technical Officer for the Geospatial Business (GSI) and involved in international business and applications development. Abstract Large Area Monitoring of Linear Infrastructure Using RADARSAT-2We discuss and present the concept and methodology for an automated monitoring system for efficient, consistent and reliable detection of hazards, encroachment and subsidence of and near linear infrastructure using Spaceborne SAR.
New image modes of RADARSAT-2 SAR data that combine high resolution (5 m) and wide area coverage (125 km) are the source for detecting subtle differences between imagery acquired in the exact same geometry. Since early 2012 a large volume of SAR data has been acquired at 24 day intervals over large areas of urban, sub-urban and developing rural areas around the world. The imagery has been used to investigate the concept and practicality of routinely generating alerts for large areas.
This paper will present the concept, examples and will discuss the benefits and outlook.
