BiographyMelli Annamalai is a product manager at Oracle. She has nearly two decades experience in data management technology for unstructured and semi-structured data, including medical imaging, geo-spatial imaging, multimedia data, spatial data, and semantic web applications. Her current technology focus is Big Data. She speaks regularly at conferences and technology events. A graduate of the University of Mysore, she has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Purdue University.Abstract Spatial and Big Data Technologies for Lower Cost, Better Quality Healthcare SystemsSpatial technology is relevant in a variety of healthcare applications: real-time disease surveillance, routing to determine access to emergency services, population-based tracking of disease prevalence and outcomes, geographical clustering to identify social determinants such as poverty, and so on. Big Data technologies bring additional value by including a variety of data from new sources, processing huge volumes of data with low cost scale-out architectures, and uncovering hidden insights with advanced analytics algorithms. Sensor feeds enable continuous and real-time analysis of data. Cloud based solutions provide lower cost options to analyze all healthcare data and integrate with spatial analysis.
