Purpose of the workshop including specific learning objectives

The purpose of the workshop is to find out about UN-GGIM: Europe and the work it is focusing on, to engage with the Regional Committee, and to discover how geospatial information can be used to inform, understand and address key global challenges.

Target workshop audience

Target audience is officials from national mapping and cadastral authorities and national statistical institutes, European Institutions and organisations, the wider geospatial community and other stake holders.

Detailed description of workshop

UN-GGIM: Europe is a regional committee of the United Nations Initiative on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). The aim of UN-GGIM: Europe work is to ensure that the national mapping and cadastral authorities and national statistical institutes in the European UN Member States, the European Institutions and associated bodies work together to contribute to the more effective management and availability of geospatial information in Europe, and its integration with other information; ensuring that geospatial information is used to inform, understand and address key global challenges.

The workshop will provide an overview of the areas of interest of UN-GGIM: Europe, these include fundamental data/core date, data integration, global geodetic reference frame, and geospatial data for sustainable development and the 2030 Development Agenda. The workshop will focus on some of these topic area, providing information of the objectives and progress the work items.
