Ron Bisio
Vice President, Geospatial Trimble United States
Biography Mr. Bisio joined Trimble in 1996 and has held several marketing, sales and general management positions prior to taking over worldwide responsibility for Trimble's Surveying and Geospatial Division in 2015. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver; a Master of Regional Planning from the University of Massachusetts; and an undergraduate degree in Geographic Information Systems & Cartography from Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts.Abstract Geospatial Platform Empowering Workflows and System IntegrationMany data-centric organizations can improve efficiency, quality and profitability by reducing the distance?both spatial and temporal?between field and office. By combining modern data collection solutions with cloud-based technologies to share and use field information, it?s possible to reduce the cost of information while simultaneously increasing its value and utilization.
As an example, using geospatial technologies that connect field and office, utility mapping organizations can produce consistent, high-quality deliverables. Office-based project information can be shared with field crews to provide immediate access to updated information and work instructions. Similarly, companies can leverage the cloud to exchange information among internal and external stakeholders, thereby setting the stage for timely, well-informed analyses and decisions.
Organizations can achieve even higher efficiencies by using software to integrate instrumentation, workflows and downstream applications. Software developers can use APIs (application programming interfaces) to guide field processes such as in-field checking for accuracy and compliance with project and regulatory requirements. Field crews can then sync the data to cloud services for data processing management. This approach to on-site quality control promptly validates the data and helps prevent costly rework or return visits.
Working on the data in the cloud, automated processing and direct transfer can deliver results to systems for modeling, visualization and analyses. The cloud-based approach supplies geospatial information to applications for CAD/GIS, BIM, EAM, project management and finance. By connecting the front office, field and back office with integrated workflows and streamlined data management, a geo-enabled, cloud-based solution can provide significant savings to providers and users of spatial information.
