WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

This workshop is devoted to the presentation and discussion of the existing developments on SDI in Portuguese speaking countries around the world.

The goal is to allow the sharing of knowledge and experiences, promote networking and the establishment of collaboration among the different actors involved, creating synergies for future cooperation, while giving the Portuguese audience the possibility to get in touch with the state of the art on SDI in Portuguese around the world.

The workshop represents an opportunity to get acquainted with the actual developments and the future strongly participated strategy for the SDI and INSPIRE in Portugal and to tries to build the whole picture of what is happening in different Portuguese speaking countries at different states of SDI development, from the African countries to Brazil. Learning objectives can thus be described as:

  • To obtain an overview/state of the art on “SDI in Portuguese” around the world;
  • To be able to identify which are the specificities of each country/SDI development, what is common, what is different and why
  • To understand what can we learn from each other and which types of collaboration may be established
  • To be able to promote capacity building initiatives tackling the main gaps and the available experience to fulfil it.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience includes the public authorities involved in data production or in the development of SDI in Portugal, the representatives of Portuguese speaking countries attending and involved in the workshop, young researchers and doctoral students, the academia, other public authorities and companies involved in the geographic information field.

DETAILED WORKSHOP AGENDA

  • Introduction to the workshop Presentation of workshop objectives and agenda.
  • SDI concepts, examples around the world, supporting/related initiatives SDI concepts, evolution, overview of examples and reference to related initiatives including INSPIRE, Copernicus, GEO/GEOSS, other.
  • The SDI/INSPIRE approach in Portugal Presentation of SNIG main developments according to INSPIRE and the strategy for its future development.
  • SDI in Portuguese speaking countries Presentation of African countries and Brazil experiences.
  • SDI Best Practices Presentation of a selection of best practices related to the development SDI specific components, performed by representatives from the different countries and from the public authorities that are part of SNIG network.
  • Final discussion and future prospects of collaboration
