Considering the underlying objectives of both INSPIRE and Geospatial World Forum is to promote the optimal use and implementation of spatial data and resources for growth, there is an existing foundation for a synergised effort. While INSPIRE is designed to discuss the latest developments of the INSPIRE Directive, addressing common policy issues, applications and implementations of SDIs, Geospatial World Forum features success stories of private industry and users of spatial data boosting the business of spatial information

Policies, technologies and applications are the three key factors affecting growth of geospatial industry. Formulation of policies and its associated implementation requires strong engagement & propagation of innovations and practices. Public private partnership is one instrumental driver not only in bridging technological gaps, but in integrating stakeholders for maximum impact. The theme CONVERGENCE: Policies + Practices + Processes via PPP aims to address the need for greater coordination

For us in the middle-income countries, particularly Ghana, the Geneva Forum convinced me, beyond any reasonable doubt, on the need for fit-for-purpose panaceas for the development, application and use of geospatial technologies for our developing countries

The Geospatial World Forum 2014 Conference was once again a 'Wow!' conference. The GWF conferences have become known as THE meeting place of the 'who's-who' in the world of geospatial information and technologies, and this year's event was no different. You miss these events at your own peril. The conference provided something for everyone, with the plenary and parallel sessions well thought out. The sessions were ably supported by the extensive exhibition of the latest geospatial technologies. The networking opportunities are just as important and there was ample time for these. The Geospatial Media and Communications team are thanked for the contribution they are making in furthering the objectives of geospatial information management

Dr D.G. Clarke Chief Director, National Geo-spatial Information, South Africa
