Space Technologies Empowering Geosmart Applications in Switzerland
Car navigation, television broadcast and Google Earth are the three most successful applications of Space to date, each relying on a particular technology. Meteorological and disaster forecasting are other examples where several space technologies are jointly used, in combination with non-space assets. The increasing ability, offered by the latest IT advances, to combine the capabilities of telecommunication satellites, positioning systems, such as GPS and Galileo, and Earth observation satellites opens new opportunities for innovative applications and services, in particular mobile ones, in many economic sectors.
This session will present a number of applications and services, currently under development in Switzerland and in Europe, relying on these systems: transport safety, disaster management and humanitarian aid, surveillance and security, infrastructure management, agriculture and forestry, energy and water management, ski resorts management, …
