OVERVIEW

GEO4SDGs, a two-day international conference is going to be held under the Geospatial World Forum 2018 umbrella, in Hyderabad, India. The GEO4SDGs international conference will include discussions and debates on Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development as adopted by the United Nations in September 2015. Attracting world leaders from the global geospatial community, development organizations, international and multilateral organizations, and academia and research, the conference will highlight the role of geospatial information as an indispensable element to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

OBJECTIVE

GEO4SDGs: Addressing the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development aims to bridge the gap between the geospatial community, policy makers, and the implementers of the Sustainable Development Goals. The conference, themed, 'Geo-knowledge conduit to SDGs success', will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss the integration of geospatial data in to the sustainable development agenda in a holistic manner. The conference aims to bring collaboration and liaison among government agencies, commercial sectors, multilateral and international development organizations, and the civil society through initiating detailed discussions.

Plenary

The plenary session at the GEO4SDGs will discuss the need for geospatial information and technology to achieve the SDGs. The plenary session will focus on the importance of geospatial technologies and processes as enabling vehicles for convergence and transformation of geospatial data into valuable information to attain the SDGs. The session will be attended by high profile delegates from multilateral and international organizations, development organizations, the global geospatial community, policy makers, academia, technology providers, and end user segments.

Facilitating Social Change Through Data Revolution

The panel discussion on 'Facilitating Social Change through Data Revolution', will focus on the need for integration of data coming from new sources with that available from the traditional sources so as to produce high-quality information in detail and at higher frequencies to foster and monitor the SDGs.

Optimum Adoption and Utilization of Geospatial Knowledge for SDGs

To understand the optimum adoption and utilization of geospatial knowledge for SDGs, the conference will have an interactive and insightful panel discussions focused on the use of geospatial knowledge for Land and Property Matter, Climate Change, and Sustainable Agriculture for the achievement of SDGs goals.

Statistics for SDGs

Statistics lie at the core of SDGs. The United Nations understands the importance of statistics to monitor the progress and further manage the SDGs. Development is not by segments and areas and for this the role of statistics is important especially for implementation of SDGs. Statistics helps set priorities and to identify where the pressing needs of a nation are and to identify if any action undertaken is in the right direction and if progress is being made.

Aligning Business Goals With SDGs

The adoption of SDGs has brought a significant relationship shift between corporations for economic and social development. Corporations can now outline and align their respective business goals so as to contribute in a meaningful manner to the achievement of SDGs. The panel discussions in this session will specifically focus on the creation of a sustainable strategy for contributing to SDGs and how organizations can leverage global partnerships for the same.

Legal and Policy Coherence for SDGs

It is important that the policy makers of countries define strong mandates and draw clear lines of accountability for the achievement of the SDGs. The panel discussions will highlight the importance of a well-established legal and policy framework that will integrate economic, social, environmental, and governamental dimensions to support long-term sustainability.
