Abstract Role of geospatial technology in crime prevention strategy at hyderabad policeModern day pressures for public safety are intensified by the surge in urbanization. The police departments that begin to use the force multiplier of advance analytics and collaboration today to help close the operational gaps are going to be the best equipped to fight crime and ensure public safety. Effective police leaders around the world become adept at responding to the challenge. It is the responsibility of Police, they must balance constancy and predictability with adaption and change.
At the outset of these challenges, Hyderabad city police have adopted advanced technology based policing to augment the operational gaps in tackling the threat situations as a paradigm shift. One such technology adaption at Hyderabad police is Geospatial information system in combination with video surveillance and advance analytical tools to amplify the crime prevention strategies in transforming policing. It is helping the Hyderabad police as a crime prevention tool to combat crime, optimal deploy of resources and target crime, and forecast future crime occurrences. The spatial analysis can identify and link unrelated crime patterns and trends; hot spot identification; intelligence and information based policing merge into result-oriented actions such as integrating location based community information, effective police patrolling, criminal surveillance, citizen engagement portals, community based policing etc.,
Hyderabad Police have witnessed with the adoption of these strategies in crime prevention, detection and investigation have resulted in significant reduction in crime and increased the rate of convictions.
