Abstract A Spatial Turn in Health Research? In 2013 Science published an article outlining the arguments for a spatial turn in health research, drawing on parallels with spatial turns that have already occurred in the social sciences, and are in the process of occurring in the humanities. A spatial perspective is a valuable source of insight in epidemiology, in understanding human behavior with respect to health services, and in managing and assessing the efficacy of health services. In all of these areas time can add a further and in some cases more powerful source of insight. The presentation ends with comments on the research agenda, and on ways in which traditional GIS needs to be rethought to address health issues.
